Cedillo-Montalvo international bridge construction remains stalled

Construction of the international bridge connecting Cedillo, Spain, and Montalvo, Portugal, remains stalled nearly a year after the contract was awarded. Despite a 19.2 million euro allocation from Portugal, work has not commenced due to pending environmental authorizations in Portugal.

Local authorities in Extremadura and Nisa report that the delay is linked to environmental assessments regarding tree protection and bird nesting sites. While administrative procedures are ongoing, the project faces a tightening timeline due to its reliance on European financing. Officials hope the environmental issues may be resolved by October, potentially allowing work to resume.
