Cedro Participações secures R$ 3.5 billion mining expansion in Mariana
Cedro Participações has secured environmental licenses from the State Council for Environmental Policy (Copam) to expand its iron ore operations in Mariana, Minas Gerais. The R$ 3.5 billion project aims to increase the unit's processing capacity from the current 2.5 million tons of raw ore per year to 10 million tons. This expansion is expected to boost pellet feed production to 5.5 million tons annually, targeting markets in Europe and the Middle East.
The project is projected to create more than 1,000 direct and indirect jobs during its implementation and operation. It also focuses on producing high-grade pellet feed, which can help reduce carbon emissions in steel production by up to 50% when used in direct reduction technology. This expansion is part of a broader strategic plan for Cedro Participações to reach a total production of 20 million tons per year by 2032.
Separately, Mineração Buritirama is scaling its operations in Pará, focusing on manganese production. Operating the Buritirama Mine, which is cited as the largest open-pit manganese mine in Latin America, the company has a production capacity exceeding 2.5 million tons per year to serve Brazilian, Asian, and European markets.
