CEFTA monitors border delays affecting truck drivers and trade
Pranvera Kastrati, Director of the CEFTA Secretariat, stated that the organization is closely monitoring border delays and the resulting tensions affecting truck drivers and regional trade. While acknowledging the concerns of drivers, Kastrati noted that the free movement of people and traffic is not entirely within CEFTA's jurisdiction, as it involves Schengen rules and the authority of European Union member states.
Kastrati emphasized that CEFTA is working to listen to the business sector and raise awareness of these issues within regional and international networks. She noted that final solutions require high-level discussions between transport ministers and relevant EU institutions. To improve trade efficiency, CEFTA is focusing on harmonizing procedures and implementing digital information exchange, ensuring customs data reaches border crossings before trucks arrive to streamline processing.
