Turkish municipalities advance urban greening and sports facility projects
Municipalities in Turkey are advancing various urban development and environmental projects. In İzmir, the Metropolitan Municipality has completed a comprehensive renovation of the Celal Atik Sports Hall located in Kültürpark. The upgrades include a new FIBA-standard sports floor, interior painting, roof waterproofing, and an energy-efficient lighting system that reduces electricity consumption by approximately 66 percent.
Additionally, İzmir has launched a large-scale afforestation initiative covering 1.522 million square meters across 13 sites. This project has seen the planting of 41,000 plants, including trees, saplings, and shrubs, to strengthen the city's green infrastructure and rehabilitate areas affected by previous forest fires.
In Bursa, construction of the Atatürk Sports Hall has reached 80 percent completion. The facility, which covers 18,720 square meters, has had its spectator capacity revised upward from 3,000 to 5,000 people. The project includes modern amenities such as changing rooms, administrative offices, and a 40-vehicle indoor parking lot.
