Celaya Mayor denies extortion linked to nightclub closures

The Mayor of Celaya, Juan Miguel Ramírez Sánchez, has denied that recent closures of local nightclubs are linked to extortion or insecurity. The decision follows announcements from Balam Nightclub and Velvet Club regarding the end of their operations.

Ramírez Sánchez attributed the closures to the natural business cycles of the commercial sector, noting that many businesses have an average lifespan of two to three years. He stated that while some establishments close, new ones frequently open to replace them. The mayor emphasized that his administration will not tolerate regulatory irregularities but maintains that there are no reports linking these specific closures to criminal activity.
