Celaya private schools face closures due to financial issues

At least five private schools in Celaya have announced total or partial closures over the last two months. Some institutions cited financial or operational difficulties as the primary cause for these decisions.

Instituto Chaurand announced it would close its facilities for the upcoming school year due to low enrollment, which prevented the school from covering minimum operating costs. The Centro Escolar Luz María also announced a definitive closure after more than 60 years of service. The Instituto Sir Winston Churchill confirmed the end of its 56-year history, describing the decision as “painful but inevitable.”

In response to these closures, Carlos Ruiz, president of the Municipal Education Commission, announced that the local government will seek formal meetings with school directors to understand the underlying causes. Ruiz also proposed that state and federal authorities consider tax incentives to alleviate the economic burden on parents who choose private education.
