Celebrations and Pilgrimage to Birbhum's Ancient Shiva Temple on Shravan Monday
On Monday, 27 July 2026, the Hindu month of Shravan observed its second Monday, a day considered especially auspicious for worship of Lord Shiva. Devotees were encouraged to share pre‑written greetings, captions and status messages via social media and messaging apps, invoking blessings such as “Om Namah Shivaya” and wishes for peace, health and success.
In West Bengal’s Birbhum district, the 900‑year‑old Malleshwar Shiva temple attracted large crowds for special prayers. The temple complex, featuring a concealed Shiva lingam and historic stone carvings dating back to the 12th‑13th century, is a key pilgrimage site during Shravan. Visitors travel from Kolkata and surrounding areas to partake in rituals and receive the deity’s blessings on this sacred Monday.
