Celebrities and public figures increasingly turn to crime fiction

A growing number of high-profile figures from various industries are transitioning into the genre of crime fiction. While many celebrities have previously moved into children’s literature, a new wave of actors, commentators, and musicians are exploring darker narratives.

Notable contributors include actor Bryan Brown, who has written three crime books, and social commentator Jane Caro. Former federal finance minister Lindsay Tanner has released two thrillers, while actor and former NRL player Matt Nable released his latest work, ‘Mire’, in July. Additionally, performer Jonathan Biggins is scheduled to publish ‘Ocean’s 55+’ in October.

Musician Robert Forster, formerly of The Go-Betweens, has also entered the genre with ‘Songwriters on the Run’. Forster noted that the book was inspired by a song he wrote in 2009, finding that both songwriting and novel writing allow him to use words to convey a specific worldview.
