Celebrity actresses address privilege and nepotism labels
High-profile actresses Catherine Zeta-Jones and Charlize Theron have addressed the complexities of celebrity parenting and privilege.
In a recent interview with BBC Radio 4, Catherine Zeta-Jones defended her children, Dylan and Carys, against the 'nepo baby' label. While acknowledging they grew up in a privileged environment as the children of Michael Douglas, she argued that they face intense public scrutiny and must work harder to prove themselves. She noted that children in other professions, such as law or medicine, are not labeled in the same way when following family career paths.
Charlize Theron spoke at a Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP) gathering in Los Angeles regarding her experience as a mother to her two adopted daughters, Jackson and August. Theron acknowledged her children live privileged lives, which has motivated her humanitarian work. Through her foundation, which has supported millions of young people in South Africa since 2007, she aims to provide other children with the same security and opportunities for development that her own daughters enjoy.
