CELEC EP invests USD 100 million in Guayas electrical infrastructure

The Corporación Eléctrica del Ecuador (CELEC EP) is executing electrical transmission infrastructure projects in the Guayas province with an investment totaling approximately USD 100 million. These works aim to strengthen the National Transmission System (SNT), meet growing residential and industrial demand, and improve energy capacity in areas including Guayaquil, Posorja, and General Villamil Playas.

Key projects include the Las Orquídeas transmission system in northern Guayaquil, representing a USD 36.25 million investment to ensure service continuity. Additionally, the Salitral substation expansion is currently 64.59% complete, with a projected investment of USD 29.35 million to install a 230/69 kV and 300 MVA transformer.

Other completed or operational works include the Posorja substation expansion, finished in August 2026 with a USD 19.48 million investment, and the Las Esclusas substation, which doubled its transformation capacity from 225 MVA to 450 MVA through a project exceeding USD 12.9 million. The funding for these initiatives is provided by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), fiscal resources, and CELEC's own funds. The projects have generated over 400 direct jobs.
