Celestial events scheduled for Italy in September 2026

In September 2026, Italy will host two distinct events related to the celestial bodies Venus and the Moon.

On September 6, the medieval village of Palaia will host the “Bacco Palaia e Venere” festival. The event features a variety of entertainment including live music, street performances, acrobatics, and guided astronomical observations. The Gruppo Astrofili Tampiano will provide telescopes at the Giardino del Palazzo Comunale starting at 20:00 for stargazing. The program includes children's activities, bubble shows, and fire juggling.

On September 14, a daytime occultation of Venus will occur. At approximately 11:27 Rome time, the Moon will temporarily obscure Venus for over an hour. Because the event takes place during daylight, it cannot be seen with the naked eye and requires binoculars, a telescope, or a camera with a powerful telephoto lens. Observers are cautioned to avoid pointing optical instruments toward the Sun to prevent permanent eye damage.
