Celestial phenomena and upcoming eclipses draw astronomical interest

August features several notable astronomical events, including the passage of comet 10P/Tempel, which reached its closest point to Earth on August 2. Other scheduled phenomena include a virtual planetary parade involving Venus, Mercury, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, and Jupiter, as well as the Perseids meteor shower peak around August 12-13.

Following the solar eclipse of August 12, 2026, which saw totality in regions such as Greenland, Iceland, northern Russia, and parts of Spain and Portugal, interest is shifting toward the next total solar eclipse expected in 2027. While the 2026 event was only partially visible in Italy, NASA imagery from Spain has highlighted the importance of location, timing, and eye protection when observing such phenomena.
