Celina Leão announces 300 new doctors and defends homeless policy in DF

Celina Leão, the Governor of the Distrito Federal, has announced several administrative measures regarding public health and social services. She recently appointed 300 doctors to strengthen the public health network, specifically targeting urgency and emergency services.

Additionally, Leão addressed criticisms regarding the government's handling of the homeless population. Denying accusations of “social cleansing,” she defended the administration's integrated approach, which combines social assistance, mental health services, and public security. The Governor noted that the government has mapped 450 abandoned points in the region and has already cleared 400 of them through planned actions involving social assistance and professional training. She also mentioned a legislative project that proposes compulsory hospitalization in extreme cases, subject to medical evaluation, to address the ongoing mental health crisis.
