Celina Leão expands infrastructure and healthcare plans amid reelection campaign
Celina Leão, the Governor of the Federal District and candidate for reelection, is intensifying her campaign through a combination of infrastructure announcements, healthcare initiatives, and political mobilization.
Regarding infrastructure, Leão announced that technical feasibility studies for expanding the metro system to five regions—including Candangolândia, Riacho Fundo, Recanto das Emas, Gama, and Santa Maria—have yielded positive results. She noted that such expansion would likely require international financing. Additionally, she promised to implement BRT services in the Riacho Fundo 1 and 2 regions.
In the healthcare sector, Leão announced that the Federal District Health Council will authorize nearly 3,000 orthopedic surgeries to reduce waiting lists.
Recent polling from the Instituto Gazeta de Pesquisas (IGAPE) shows Leão maintaining a significant lead in the race for the Palácio do Buriti. Her support rose to 36.5%, increasing her margin over former governor José Roberto Arruda, who fell to 20.7%. The survey also noted growth for candidate Leandro Grass, who reached 13.8%.
