Celina Leão reelected as Governor of Distrito Federal
Celina Leão (PP) has been reelected to lead the Distrito Federal for a four-year term, securing 57.18% of the valid votes. Her administration faces several critical priorities, including the financial recovery of the Banco de Brasília (BRB) and addressing long waiting lists in the public health system.
To improve healthcare, Leão has launched the ‘Expresso da Saúde’ initiative to accelerate services through private sector partnerships, alongside plans to implement telemedicine and artificial intelligence. The government also intends to construct five new hospitals, seven urgent care units, and 12 basic health units, with specialized projects for oncology and orthopedics.
In urban mobility, the administration plans to invest in the second metro line and a light rail system (VLT), supported by an 8-million-real study. Other infrastructure goals include expanding bike lanes by 200 km, purchasing 15 new trains, and building new stations in Ceilândia and Samambaia.
In education, the focus remains on improving student performance and ensuring teaching continuity by replacing temporary contracts with over 2,600 permanent teachers. Following the election, defeated candidate Leandro Grass (PT) stated he intends to continue monitoring the BRB crisis and reorganizing the progressive opposition.
