Celita Toledo's clinics investigated after three deaths
Celita Toledo, a candidate for federal deputy representing the Republicanos party in Rio de Janeiro, is facing scrutiny as the owner of a health group under investigation. The clinics are being investigated following three patient deaths and reports from more than 24 women alleging mutilations, necrosis, and deformities following plastic surgeries.
Election records from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) show that Toledo’s campaign received a R$ 20,000 donation from surgeon José Adrian Bermudez Bohorquez, which accounts for approximately 19.46% of her reported campaign funds. Bohorquez has been provisionally suspended from his activities following the death of 34-year-old Jéssica Conceição da Cruz. The patient underwent rib remodeling, liposuction, and abdominoplasty; she died after suffering intestinal perforations resulting from the procedures.
Authorities are also investigating the death of 42-year-old Isabely Viana, who died following a cardiopulmonary arrest during an abdominoplasty. Toledo’s defense stated that it is inappropriate to assign responsibility before the conclusion of official investigations and expressed respect for the legal process.
