CELITED and SLEP Licancabur launch mentorship pilot in Chile

The Center for Leadership for the Transformation of Educational Territories (CELITED) and SLEP Licancabur have launched a pilot mentorship program in Calama and San Pedro de Atacama. The initiative aims to strengthen the leadership skills of four school directors in their first years of service.

Three novice directors from Calama and one from San Pedro de Atacama will be paired with three experienced mentor directors. The program is designed to be specialized, addressing the specific needs and unique challenges of each individual director and their respective educational community.

The program responds to significant challenges in school management. Data from the ‘Directores por Chile’ report indicates that 37.3% of educational leaders cite resource scarcity as a primary obstacle, while 28.1% report an increase in students with emotional issues. Additionally, Ministry of Education studies show that 80.1% of directors state that administrative workloads frequently interfere with their pedagogical duties.
