Celje and Dubrovnik residents vote on local development projects

Local governments in Celje and Dubrovnik have concluded cycles of participatory budgeting, allowing citizens to vote on community development projects.

In Celje, residents selected 49 projects to be implemented during 2027 and 2028. A total of 6,722 votes were cast, including 1,110 specifically for youth-oriented categories. The selected initiatives cover a wide range of needs, such as the renovation of sports and children's playgrounds, improved traffic safety, installation of defibrillators, and various cultural and intergenerational events. Specific projects include the installation of modern slides, the creation of outdoor fitness areas, and the development of pedestrian paths.

In Dubrovnik, the ‘Za bolji Grad’ (For a Better City) initiative, conducted by the City of Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik Development Agency (DURA), resulted in the selection of 25 projects for realization in 2027. Following a technical analysis of 67 proposals, citizens voted on various local improvements. Key projects include the repair of stone steps in the Old Town, the creation of multi-purpose spaces in Gruž, and the establishment of a social center in Šumet. Other selected works involve road reconstructions, improved lighting, and the enhancement of public spaces and local schools across various city districts and local committees.
