Cell and gene therapy manufacturing market projected to reach $212.8 billion by 2030

The cell and gene therapy manufacturing services market is projected to more than double, growing from $9.48 billion in 2025 to $212.8 billion by 2030. This rapid expansion is driven by rising demand for advanced treatments for cancer, neurological disorders, and genetic abnormalities, which is currently outpacing the internal manufacturing capabilities of many developers.

Major industry players, including Thermo Fisher Scientific, Lonza Group, Catalent, WuXi AppTec, Samsung Biologics, and Fujifilm Holdings, are competing to expand their production capacities. In the United States, the government agency ARPA-H has launched programs to foster innovative biomanufacturing to improve production yields and cost-effectiveness.

In a related development, Lonza has announced the advancement of a preclinical aseptic spray drying program based in Bend, US. This initiative aims to provide new formulation and delivery options for biologics, specifically addressing challenges in high-dose subcutaneous administration, stability, and manufacturability for monoclonal antibodies and peptides.
