Celltrion's Remsima reaches number one in Japan's infliximab market

Celltrion's autoimmune disease treatment, Remsima (infliximab), has achieved the top market share in Japan's infliximab market. According to data from IQVIA and local sources, Remsima recorded a 48% market share in July, surpassing original brand-name drugs for the first time since its launch in the country 11 years ago.

Celltrion attributed this success to a dual-track distribution strategy involving its local partner, Nippon Kayaku, and its own Japanese subsidiary. Because the Japanese pricing structure offers little difference in patient out-of-pocket costs between originals and biosimilars, the company focused on clinical data reliability, brand recognition, and marketing expertise.

Celltrion maintains a strong presence in Japan with other products, including Yuflyma (adalimumab) with a 21% biosimilar market share, and oncology treatments such as Herzuma (trastuzumab) at 78% and Vegzelma (bevacizumab) at 64%. The company plans to expand its portfolio further with the scheduled launch of Remsima SC, a subcutaneous formulation, in 2027.
