Celso Amorim discusses Lula's election victory and US relations

Celso Amorim, special advisor to the Presidency and foreign policy counselor for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, stated that there is no necessity for U.S. President Donald Trump to issue a statement regarding Lula's electoral victory. Amorim noted that while such a pronouncement is a matter of “good manners” and tradition, the coexistence of nations does not require it. He emphasized that the election was an incontestable victory following broad popular participation.

In the United States, the podcast ‘Pod Save the World’ highlighted Lula's victory as a significant global political shift. Analysts attributed the win to a modernized digital campaign strategy, including the massive ‘Exército de Lula’ WhatsApp group, and the successful capture of approximately 75% of votes from third-party candidates in the second round. The victory margin was reported at 51.8% to 48.2%, overcoming previous expectations of a victory for Flavio Bolsonaro.
