Celta de Vigo evaluates Hugo González and transfer plans after friendly win

Celta de Vigo beat Sporting de Gijón 1‑0 in a pre‑season friendly in Vigo, with Hugo González scoring the only goal in the 61st minute. Coach Claudio Giráldez praised González’s performance and the squad’s attitude, noting that the striker, the top scorer in pre‑season, must decide whether to remain with the first team or return to the B‑team, as he can no longer alternate between the two.

Giráldez said the market is moving slowly because of the World Cup and stressed the need for three signings – a central defender, a goalkeeper and an attacking player – after some departures. He also highlighted the possible return of former player Fer López and the club’s renewed interest in left‑back Hugo Bueno, who currently plays in England. The coach remains confident in the direction of the sporting project despite the physical fatigue of the pre‑season period.
