Celtic captain Callum McGregor calls for high standards ahead of new season

Celtic captain Callum McGregor said the team must "build something special" under manager Martin O'Neill and maintain the "unbelievable standard" set over the past 14–15 years. He acknowledged that money can be a factor for players over 30 but insisted he has not hinted at leaving the club.

Speaking at the pre‑season camp in Portugal, McGregor stressed that standards and accountability are crucial, quoting: "A lot of the time what carries us through is the standards and I always try to say that to the players – it’s what we hold ourselves accountable for." He highlighted the importance of the friendly against Sporting CP as a test against Champions League‑level opposition and noted upcoming fixtures against Middlesbrough, AC Milan and Dundee as part of the preparation for the Scottish Premiership campaign.
