Celtic CEO Michael Nicholson pledges support for manager Martin O'Neill
Celtic Football Club CEO Michael Nicholson has publicly reaffirmed his support for manager Martin O’Neill following a difficult period for the club. The decision comes after a series of losses, including defeats to Rangers in both the League Cup quarter-final and the Scottish Premiership, as well as a home loss to Ferencvaros in the Europa League.
O’Neill has indicated that he may need to consider his future following recent results, stating that “perhaps it is time to end this.” Despite these challenges and recent criticism regarding transfer spending—which includes approximately £31.7 million spent on players such as Kasper Hogh—Nicholson emphasized that the club hierarchy remains united behind the manager and his coaching staff.
The club is also navigating financial shifts. After reporting a profit of £33.9 million last year, the club faces a more difficult financial landscape due to missing out on the Champions League, rising wages, and changes in player trading. Nicholson noted that the club is working closely with O’Neill on transfer strategies to achieve success in both domestic and European competitions.
