Celtic exits Champions League qualifying after aggregate loss to LASK

Manager Martin O’Neill accepted full responsibility for the defeat, stating the team is “a million miles” from the required standard. He noted that missing out on qualification will likely impact the club’s ability to recruit new players during the remainder of the transfer window. Captain Callum McGregor echoed the sentiment, stating the players “got what we deserved” due to a passive performance.

Following the exit, former Sunderland executive director Charlie Methven suggested the club may have a business model designed to remain profitable despite European failure. Methven argued that Celtic’s financial position allows them to remain stable even without Champions League revenue, a claim that comes amid ongoing supporter scrutiny regarding the club’s long-term European strategy.
