Celtic FC decides to sell midfielder Reo Hatate

Celtic FC has reportedly made a final decision to sell midfielder Reo Hatate during the current summer transfer window. According to reports from Football Insider, the club aims to move the player as manager Martin O'Neill looks to refresh the midfield.

Hatate has seen a decline in playing time, notably failing to feature in the final eight matches of the previous season and seeing limited minutes at the start of the 2026-27 campaign. While Hatate has reportedly rejected offers from clubs in Greece, Austria, and the United States in hopes of securing a move to one of Europe’s top five leagues, Celtic appears intent on facilitating his departure.

The club is reportedly working to secure a replacement, with Bosnian midfielder Elmir Mahmutović mentioned as a potential target. If Hatate leaves, he will be the first Japanese player to depart the club since the era of Kyogo Furuhashi, leaving Celtic without any Japanese players in their squad.
