Celtic FC pursues Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis
Celtic FC is intensifying its pursuit of Lithuanian midfielder Gvidas Gineitis from Serie A club Torino FC. Following the departure of Arne Engels to West Ham United, the Scottish club is looking to bolster its midfield options.
Torino is reportedly under financial pressure to balance its books, with the club facing a deficit of approximately €20 million this year. This situation may strengthen Celtic's negotiating position. While previous reports suggested a valuation of around €14 million, recent indications suggest Torino might accept a fee closer to €10 million, with some reports suggesting a bid in the region of £6 million plus add-ons could be sufficient.
Gineitis, a 22-year-old with 32 international caps for Lithuania, featured 31 times for Torino last season. Although Celtic's previous formal bid of €7.5 million was rejected, the club remains persistent in its interest. Competition for the player is increasing, as RB Salzburg has also reportedly had a bid and a player-plus-fee offer rejected.
