Neemias Queta signs $56 million four‑year extension with Boston Celtics
Portuguese center Neemias Queta agreed to a four‑year, $56 million contract extension with the Boston Celtics, providing an average salary of about $14 million per year and $2.6 million for the 2026‑27 season. Queta said the security of a multi‑year deal mattered more to him than the amount of money, noting that “for me, the money was not the most important thing; the most important thing was to know Boston bet on me for another four years.”
When asked if he would pay $100,000 for private offseason training with two‑time NBA champion Hakeem Olajuwon, Queta replied, “I’m stingy. No, I wouldn’t spend $100,000 on training, not even with Hakeem Olajuwon.” He added that he will continue to develop through his own work and Boston’s player‑development program. Queta also said he is focusing on improving his defensive switching and one‑on‑one defense without extra help.
Last season, Queta posted career‑best averages of 10.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game while starting in most games. The Celtics also added former Knicks center Mitchell Robinson on a three‑year, $47.4 million contract, creating competition in the frontcourt, but Queta expects to retain his starting role heading into the next season.
