Cem Özdemir to form youth advisory council in Baden-Württemberg

Baden-Württemberg Minister President Cem Özdemir is launching a new youth advisory council to integrate the perspectives and needs of young people into state politics. The initiative aims to move beyond merely discussing youth issues by establishing regular dialogue with the younger generation.

The selection process involves a multi-stage lottery system designed to ensure diversity. The state ministry will first contact 26 randomly selected municipalities. From there, over 5,000 teenagers between the ages of 14 and 18 will be contacted via local registry offices. From the pool of respondents, 20 members will be chosen by lot to serve a two-year term.

Özdemir stated that the goal is to reflect the diverse lived experiences of young people across the state, ensuring they have the same opportunities for prosperity and social advancement as previous generations.
