Cema-Mystal foundry faces liquidation and mass layoffs

The Cema-Mystal foundry in Myszków, a remnant of a once-massive metallurgical complex that employed 4,500 people, is facing liquidation. Following an unsuccessful restructuring procedure (sanacja) initiated in April, the company is preparing for mass layoffs that will affect its entire current workforce of over 70 employees.

The company produces steel and cast iron castings for the energy, automotive, and construction sectors. According to the insolvency administrator, Adrian Dzwonek, the company has been unable to compete in tenders against suppliers from India, Turkey, and Ukraine, as well as foreign-capitalized firms. Current turnover is insufficient to cover operating costs and debt obligations, which total approximately 12 million PLN.

Management is seeking a strategic investor or government intervention to prevent total closure and has formally contacted the Ministry of State Assets. Without such support, the company's assets may be sold off.
