CEMAC financial markets targeted for economic growth at Douala convention

The inaugural Diamond Capital Convention, held in Douala from September 23 to 25, 2026, focused on leveraging CEMAC financial markets to drive economic growth across Central Africa. Organized by Almasi Capital & Advisory, the event drew nearly 3,000 participants to discuss financial education, legal security, and the mobilization of domestic savings for productive investment.

Cameroon’s Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motazé, called for the transformation of the regional capital market into a pillar for sustainable development. He identified industrialization, local raw material processing, critical infrastructure (energy, transport, and digital), and innovation as priority sectors for investment to reduce import dependency and create jobs.

The convention highlighted the need for increased financial literacy to expand the investor pool. While the Central African Stock Exchange (BVMAC) has seen significant growth—notably following the listing of BGFI Holding Corporation in May 2026, which helped push equity market capitalization to approximately CFAF 1.71 trillion—the market continues to face challenges such as a limited number of listed companies.
