Cement industry activity rises in Algeria and Burkina Faso
The Port of Annaba in Algeria is expanding its role in non-hydrocarbon exports, recently processing 39,600 tonnes of cement and clinker simultaneously across three vessels. The operation, benefiting Biskria Ciment, involved the MV Matilda GS carrying 26,000 tonnes of bagged cement, the MV Halisdemir loading 6,600 tonnes of white clinker, and the MV Sky loading 7,000 tonnes of grey clinker.
In West Africa, the West African Development Bank (BOAD) has approved 10 billion FCFA to support Afric Cements in establishing a new production plant in the Kossodo industrial zone of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. The facility aims for an annual production capacity of 285,000 tonnes to strengthen local supply and create jobs. This approval is part of a larger 157.5 billion FCFA financing package across six countries within the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA).
