Cement Industry Expands Environmental Awards in Mexico and Guatemala
Cemex Mexico received two international recognitions from the NGO Tandem Global for its biodiversity conservation work at the Atotonilco plant in Hidalgo, where desert habitat was restored through native reforestation, soil recovery and wildlife return. The company also earned an employee‑commitment award for staff participation in environmental education.
Cementos ULTRACEM announced the launch of the fifth GEMAS 2026 awards in Guatemala, adding a new category for Sustainable Construction and Infrastructure. The program aims to attract around 200 participants and will assess projects on social impact, sustainability, creativity and replicability. Six award categories—including Environmental Citizen, Environmental Education and Cultural Legacy—will be judged by an independent jury, with finalists invited to a final ceremony.
