Cement trade trends show export growth in Pakistan and import declines in Malawi

In Pakistan, cement exports rose by 9.58 percent during July 2026 compared to the same month in the previous year. According to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, export value reached US$38.212 million, while the volume of exports increased by 11.96 percent, rising from 640,198 metric tons to 985,180 metric tons.

In Malawi, cement imports have decreased by approximately eight percent following the commissioning of Portland Cement Malawi Limited’s 800,000 metric tonne capacity factory in the Balaka District. This increase in local production has helped close the domestic production deficit and stabilize local prices, reducing the need for imports from Zambia.

Local producers in Malawi, including Shayona Cement Company, Cement Products Limited, and Portland Cement Malawi, have increased their combined capacity. While this has stabilized the market for contractors, it has resulted in an estimated 22 percent drop in cement customs revenue at the Mchinji One-Stop Border Post.
