Cemig clarifies electricity meter replacement procedures
Cemig has clarified the procedures and responsibilities regarding the replacement of electricity meters. As the equipment belongs to the distributor, Cemig is responsible for its maintenance and replacement when failures, modernization needs, or end-of-life issues occur.
Consumers are advised to contact official company channels immediately upon noticing abnormalities, such as consumption recording interruptions or visible damage. Demétrius Benício de Freitas, Cemig's Electrical System Supervisor, warned that customers must not attempt to repair or remove the equipment themselves, as unauthorized intervention poses accident risks and may be classified as an irregularity.
Replacement is generally free of charge when caused by natural wear, technical failure, or manufacturing defects. However, according to Aneel regulations, costs may be charged to the consumer if the need for replacement arises from external actions, such as intentional damage, tampering, or irregular interventions. Each case is analyzed individually by the distributor.
