Cemig clarifies energy meter replacement responsibilities and costs

Cemig has clarified the procedures and responsibilities regarding the replacement of energy meters. As the equipment belongs to the distributor, Cemig is responsible for its maintenance and replacement.

Consumers are advised to contact the company through official channels if they notice abnormalities such as consumption recording interruptions or visible damage. Demétrius Benício de Freitas, a supervisor of Cemig’s Electrical System, warned that consumers must not attempt to repair or remove the equipment themselves, as this poses safety risks and may be classified as an irregularity.

Replacement is typically free of charge when the need arises from natural wear, technical failures, or manufacturing defects. However, according to Aneel regulations, consumers may be charged if the replacement is required due to intentional damage, tampering, or unauthorized interventions.
