Turkey: Judicial suspensions and Ekrem İmamoğlu legal proceedings
In Turkey, the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) has suspended five judges and prosecutors for three months following allegations of interference in judicial processes. This action follows an investigation into a criminal organization, allegedly led by Musa Ş., which is accused of influencing court proceedings in Istanbul for financial gain between 2022 and 2024. Five suspects, including the alleged leader and a lawyer, have been detained and subsequently arrested.
Separately, the legal case involving Ekrem İmamoğlu regarding the use of a vehicle from his private company for municipal services has proceeded. During the first hearing, İmamoğlu argued that the case is politically motivated. He stated that he provided the vehicle to the municipality free of charge to save costs compared to expensive rentals and noted that he has already repaid over 400,000 TL to cover fuel and maintenance expenses. The court has postponed the next hearing to October 23.
