CEMPA-Cerrado launches environmental monitoring tools for Goiás
The Center of Excellence in Environmental Studies, Monitoring, and Forecasting of the Cerrado (CEMPA-Cerrado) at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG) is launching three new environmental monitoring tools for the state of Goiás.
The new products include an air quality forecasting platform customized for the state, weekly air quality bulletins, and an updated online tool for monitoring active fire hotspots. These initiatives aim to strengthen the response capacity of Goiás and the Goiânia Metropolitan Region to climate change and the effects of El Niño, which have historically increased drought, temperatures, and wildfires in the Brazilian Midwest.
The launch event features collaboration between UFG, the National Institute for Space Research (INPE), and the government of Goiás. The event will also include international participation from the Director of the National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics of Angola (INAMET).
