Cempasúchil cultivation expands in Rosarito and Sinaloa

Cempasúchil, the traditional Mexican marigold, is seeing significant cultivation and tourism development in Baja California and Sinaloa. In the municipality of Playas de Rosarito, 18 hectares of the flower have been planted, with producers growing white, yellow, and orange varieties. According to the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRICULTURA), a total of 21 hectares of cempasúchil have been sown in the region, including three hectares in Tijuana.

In Sinaloa, the first cempasúchil field in the Surutato mountains of Badiraguato has opened to the public. The one-hectare site attracted over 700 visitors during its inaugural day. The project, driven by a local ejido committee, aims to boost the rural economy by combining mountain landscapes with traditional Day of the Dead festivities to attract tourists from surrounding municipalities and the state of Sonora.
