Census 2027 self-enumeration begins in snow-bound Indian regions

The self-enumeration phase of Census 2027 has commenced in the snow-bound and high-altitude regions of Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Residents in these remote areas can submit their details online through an official portal from August 17 to August 31.

To ensure accuracy, the self-enumeration process utilizes geo-fencing technology. Residents must be physically present within their designated snow-bound areas to access the portal and submit information; for example, a resident of Gurez cannot file details from Srinagar or Jammu due to these geo-reference restrictions.

Following the online phase, census officials and supervisors will conduct door-to-door enumeration from September 1 to September 30. This phase will be a paperless exercise conducted via a mobile application. The population enumeration for the remainder of India is scheduled to take place in February 2027.
