Centar Municipality Council fails to suspend controversial construction

The Centar Municipality Council failed to pass a proposal to suspend a portion of the ‘Bunjavovec 1’ urban development plan, clearing the way for controversial construction near the ‘Kuzman Josifovski-Pitu’ student dormitory.

Mayor Goran Gerasimovski stated that the suspension proposal received only 10 votes, falling short of the required majority. The lack of support came from councilors representing VMRO-DPMNE and Znam.

The municipality has previously identified significant safety and legal risks regarding the construction plot located at the intersection of Kliment Ohridski and Mitropolit Teodosij Gologanov boulevards. Key concerns include the only access route passing near a flammable heating fuel reservoir at the student dormitory, posing a fire risk. Additionally, the route passes through underground utility installations serving the neighborhood and through previously legalized structures that present complex legal challenges for removal.
