Centar Municipality launches public survey for Barutana urban plan

The Municipality of Centar has launched a public survey regarding the Draft Detailed Urban Plan (DUP) for the Barutana urban quarter. Mayor Goran Gerasimovski stated that the initiative aims to ensure transparent urban planning and allow citizens to submit proposals, opinions, and remarks. The survey is scheduled to run from August 13 to September 14, 2026, with options for both written submissions at a local school and electronic forms via official websites.

However, the opposition party Levica has challenged the process, calling for a local referendum instead of a standard survey. Levica argues that the mandatory public survey is a legal formality that does not grant citizens final decision-making power. The party expressed concerns regarding the public interest of constructing 25 buildings on the slopes of Vodno and opening tens of thousands of square meters for new construction, suggesting that a direct vote is necessary to determine if the plan truly serves the community.
