CENTCOM deploys USS George Washington to Middle East amid maritime tensions

This military movement occurs amid heightened maritime security concerns. Egypt's Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, has warned against any interference with free navigation in critical waterways, including the Red Sea, the Bab el-Mandeb, and the Strait of Hormuz. Simultaneously, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported an incident near Yemen where six armed individuals boarded a vessel and redirected it toward Somalia.
Separately, CENTCOM has faced diplomatic scrutiny following the release of military maps. An initial graphic depicting Palestinian territories within Israeli borders was removed following criticism. A subsequent map was released recognizing the 1967 borders for Palestine and depicting Cyprus as two separate sovereign states, including the borders of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
