Centenary Bank reports 100 percent H1 profit increase in Malawi
Centenary Bank has reported a profit-before-tax of K7.2 billion for the six-month period ending June 30, 2026. This represents a 100 percent increase compared to the K3.6 billion recorded during the same period in 2025, and a 3 percent rise over the full-year 2025 profit of K7.0 billion.
The bank attributed this growth to the increased adoption of mobile and online banking, which has reduced costs and enabled faster transactions. Additionally, an expansion of credit to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) has created new revenue streams and supported economic diversification in Malawi.
While the bank's performance signals a more stable environment for local entrepreneurs, management noted that future growth depends on managing risks related to inflation, fluctuating exchange rates, and the need for strengthened digital infrastructure and regulatory compliance.
