Center for Civic Education defends visual used in rector election critique

The Center for Civic Education (CGO) has responded to criticisms from the University of Montenegro (UCG) regarding a visual used in a recent publication. The UCG Gender Studies program had labeled the visual as sexist and misogynistic.

CGO rejected these claims, stating that the visual was intended as satire to critique the power dynamics between the current rector and the prorector. The organization argued that the focus of their critique was the decision to initiate the rector election process 11 months before the current mandate expires, rather than an attack on the professional or academic standing of Professor Irena Orović.

CGO emphasized that freedom of expression includes the right to use satire and provocation when criticizing public figures and institutions, asserting that gender equality should not exempt women in public office from scrutiny.
