Center for Independent Journalism launches free digital media courses for teachers

The Center for Independent Journalism (CJI) has opened registrations for a new series of free digital media education courses designed for teachers. The program aims to help educators guide students in understanding disinformation, artificial intelligence, algorithms, and information verification techniques.

The training is specifically intended for teachers of fifth-grade subjects within the ‘Language and Communication’ or ‘Human and Society’ curricular areas. It also prepares them to teach the optional ‘Elements of Digital Media Education’ course for sixth-grade students next year. The course is free for teachers in state and Ministry of Education and Research-accredited education.

According to CJI Executive Director Cristina Lupu, at least 50 teachers from 26 counties will teach the optional sixth-grade subject this school year. These educators are part of a larger group of 1,800 teachers trained by CJI in recent years to integrate concepts regarding the role of the press, disinformation, and AI into the classroom.
