Centerkvinnorna Gävleborg calls for action against violence toward elderly women

The Centerkvinnorna Gävleborg organization is calling for increased attention and action regarding violence against elderly women in the Gävleborg region of Sweden. Leaders Elisabeth Johansson and Mari-Louise Wernersson highlight that domestic violence often persists into old age, yet remains an invisible issue due to shame, isolation, and the tendency to dismiss signs of abuse as natural aging.

To combat this, the group is advocating for mandatory training for healthcare and elderly care personnel to help them identify and respond to domestic violence. Additionally, they are proposing the use of more mobile teams, increased preventive home visits for individuals over 65, and expanded research into the vulnerability of elderly women to violence.
