CenterPoint Energy projects job growth and consumer savings via Texas grid upgrades

CenterPoint Energy has released findings from an economic impact study regarding proposed electric transmission improvement projects in Texas. The study, conducted by IdeaSmiths, suggests that these resiliency and reliability projects in Southeast Texas could add over $18 billion annually to the state economy and generate approximately $120 million in yearly local property tax revenue.

During the construction phase, the projects have the potential to create roughly 41,000 jobs. Additionally, the utility has introduced a ‘Customer Savings Initiative’ aimed at reducing electricity costs for Texas customers by more than $5 billion over the next decade.

CenterPoint Energy proposes that by integrating more high-demand users, such as data centers, into the grid, a larger share of system infrastructure costs would be carried by these large-load users rather than residential households and small businesses. The initiative expects to tie much of these savings to as much as 14 gigawatts of qualifying ERCOT baseload and studied-load projects.
