Central African forest and mangrove projects aim to protect ecosystems

A two‑day workshop on sustainable tropical forest landscapes concluded in Inongo, Maï‑Ndombe province, bringing together experts, authorities, local community and indigenous representatives. Organized with the support of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), participants adopted recommendations to strengthen forest protection, curb deforestation and improve livelihoods. Governor Lebon Nkoso Kevani urged that the recommendations be turned into concrete actions on the ground.

In Cameroon, Orange Cameroon, the NGO Planète Urgence and the international agency SIA continue the CAMERR project, the country’s largest mangrove restoration programme. Since 2022 the initiative has restored about 800 ha of mangroves and planted two million trees, enhancing coastal resilience, biodiversity and carbon storage while supporting vulnerable coastal communities.
