Central Alberta crop harvest reaches 99.8% completion
The 2026 harvest in Central Alberta is nearly finished, with 99.8% of all crops harvested as of October 20, according to the Alberta Crop Report. While the harvest has extended later than usual due to moisture in both crops and fields, provincial yields are expected to be strong.
The five-year dryland provincial yield index estimates that major crops will yield 21% above the five-year average. Regional performance varies significantly: the South region is expected to yield 60% above the average, Central is expected to be 24% above, the North East 8% above, and the Peace region 14% above. Conversely, the North West region is projected to yield 9% below its five-year average.
Challenges during the season included cooler temperatures limiting drying potential, soil moisture in low-lying areas complicating equipment operation, and strong winds. Although yields remain stable, there has been a slight decline in provincial crop quality as harvesting moved into later-maturing fields.
